Jim Van Stone, President, Monumental Sports & Entertainment

The transformation of Capital One Arena in Washington, DC is one of the most ambitious arena projects ever—a three-year, phased effort to reimagine the building from the event level to the roof and create one of the world’s premier sports and entertainment destinations. What makes the project particularly remarkable is that it is being executed while the arena continues to host the Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards and numerous other events. With major construction compressed into the offseason and carefully phased work continuing while the building remains active, Monumental Sports & Entertainment in partnership with Clark Construction are effectively transforming a 1997 arena into a high-tech, high-touch and high-performing destination.

Jim Van Stone, President of Business Operations and Chief Commercial Officer of Monumental Sports & Entertainment, will be joined by Jeff King, Vice President of Clark Construction, for an inside look at the extraordinary process behind this transformation. Their conversation will explore the vision for creating a truly world-class arena, the complexities of executing a massive construction program around an active sports and entertainment schedule, and the collaboration required to deliver it. Just as importantly, the project is part of a vibrant reimagining of Downtown Washington, D.C., with Capital One Arena serving as a catalyst for the continued evolution of Gallery Place and the broader downtown entertainment district—reinforcing the arena’s role as an economic and cultural anchor for the city.
